Island Bar offers free room hire (subject to a minimum spend),
where you can celebrate your special occasion with our bar team. We
have an upstairs lounge bar that is available for FREE private hire.
The self-contained area has it’s own entrance, bar, toilets etc. and
can accommodate up to 80 guests in comfort. We have the facilities
to allow you to have live music, dj’s and we can provide catering
for your event (the Kitchen Garden Organic Cafe in Kings Heath are
one of our preferred suppliers) or allow you to bring your own food
if you prefer.
About the Cocktail Masterclass at Island Bar
Island is proud to offer our ‘Shaken & Stirred’ cocktail masterclasses, ideal as an interesting party event or as a fun-filled alternative team building occasion.
Learn the fine art of cocktail bartending and hone your cocktail
making skills with some of
the best bartenders in Birmingham. A great night out could involve
one or more of our bartenders taking you through a range of drinks
from around the world and help you further your knowledge of the art
of mixology.
The 3 main areas of the session include:
The History and Comparative Tasting of Spirits.
Enjoy learning more about your favourite spirits and compare the
taste against their competitors. This is an invaluable way of
gaining further insight into how a spirit has been produced and how
its taste has evolved. It also allows you to compare the taste
nuances of the spirits against other products in that class so you
leave feeling better educated and more confident in your knowledge
of spirits.
Global Cocktails and Techniques
Watch as one of our skilled bar team puts together some of the most famous cocktails from around the world while at the same time providing an insight into the history of how the cocktails came about.
Making Some Drinks
Once the cocktails have been demonstrated your group then have the opportunity to make some global classics under the guidance of our expert staff. This is an invaluable way for the team to pick up new skills by tasting and experimenting with their own concoctions while providing feedback to each other.
Team Cocktail Competition
We also provide the opportunity for teams to compete against each
other to invent their own cocktail from scratch using the taste
knowledge picked up on the day and come up with an original name for
it. One or two members of the team will then be responsible for
showcasing the drink to the rest of the group. Our bar team will
provide the judging and a prize will be awarded to the team
providing the most interesting and well-made drink.
We are also able to offer a full buffet or canapé service to
complement the cocktails.
